No Matter What—Get up! Dress Up! Show Up!
Life can seem like a real bummer sometimes, can’t it? Things are going along pretty good and all of a sudden wham—something hits you from left field and knocks you to the ground. We’ve all experienced these moments in our life, and sometimes you just want to crawl in bed and sleep until the entire situation is resolved. Whether you lose a job, receive an unwanted health diagnosis, experience a relationship break-up, or whatever situation sends you reeling, even if you think you’ll never make it through this challenge, you always do.
Look back over your life right now and remember some times when everything looked bleak and dark, but here you are, months or years later, living proof you made it through!
As a life coach I work with individuals continuously who are stuck or in crisis and reaching out for help. Sometimes they feel like giving up because they believe there is no hope for resolution of their problem. They are stuck in the fear and cannot see the brightness of the future. The sad thing is that as long as they focus on the mess that’s around them, they will remain in it. And even if they move through that situation, another will surface unless they change their thoughts. The only way out is to change their thoughts to a belief that all is well and something good will come out of their situation.
However, many individuals cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel so remain stuck, wallowing in self-pity and resentment. They may not crawl back in bed so to speak, yet they hide from the potential of what can be and simply play the role of victim, feeling very sorry for themselves. But those that win, those that get the gold, can see the light, and in fact, never lose sight of it.
Anyone who has ever trained for a sports competition knows the importance of facing the opponent. No matter who or what appears as an obstacle on their path, they know that in order to win they must focus on the prize and never lose sight of it. They may stumble and fall or get beaten down, but they always get up and show up for the next practice or next experience.
This is how it is in life. The key is always to get up no matter what has happened and keep trekking, brushing off your knees as you stand up. Put on your finest and be prepared for all the good that lies ahead. Show that you mean business and are willing to move forward. Step up to the plate and get ready for the swing. When you show up the universe knows you’re serious about playing and becoming a victor.
How many times do you think those in training are tired, bruised, discouraged, and realize that their training is hard? I imagine they think of quitting more than once. But what keeps them coming back for more? It’s their desire to do their job, win the game, and make a dream come true.
The same is true for all of us as we move along our life journey. There will be many times when we feel discouraged, perhaps even to the point of wanting to give up on something or someone, but if we decide we want to make a dream come true, we have to continue to focus on that desire — the gold — and keep it in our minds every day.
The secret to making it through to create and realize the dream is to completely let go of the entire situation. Place the intention of what you want, then surrender it to God and continue with your life. Do not try to figure out any of the details or you’ll be in the way. Letting go of the control is very difficult for many people, yet it’s the way to allow the dream to come true with ease.
Envision what it is you want and keep it in front of your face continually. Athletes often visualize plays or positions sitting in a room. Visualizing ingrains it into their mind so when finally on the field they can bring it into reality. You can do the same. Picture the end result of what you want. Keep it in your mind at all times. Dress up for the win as if you have already become the victor, showing up every day as the victor. What will happen? One day, when the timing is right, the vision of what you wanted will manifest in your life, just like you saw it or better.
Funny thing — oftentimes, your life will show exactly the opposite of what you want. You’ll look around you and maybe think it’s all a joke – the visualizing of your dream. The universe is funny that way. As soon as you envision your dream — perhaps the resolution of an uncomfortable or problematic situation — the universe begins to bring it to you, however, since that usually involves getting rid of debris that’s in the way, it may actually seem that everything is going crazy around you and getting worse. Hang in there! The old must fall away before the new can unfold.
So no matter what is going on around you right now, don’t remain in the prone position. Stand up, brush off your knees, and lift your eyes so you can see all the possibilities. Dress yourself with the power you have to create your dreams into reality. When you have belief, the universe aligns with you and begins the process of bringing everything into fruition. As you show up, the universe shows up, and resolution of every problematic situation occurs, allowing your dreams to manifest with ease, all in divine timing. It’s not always easy to see the good when your life feels like it is falling apart, but in the end, as you look back over the resolution of the situation, the good will appear like a brilliant white light, shining brightly in your life. It’s your choice of course, but I can promise that it always pays off to Get up! Dress up! and Show up!
